CONFERENCE TOURNEY PREDICTIONS
America East - Vermont (15-1), the team which outclassed Albany at home and on the road.
But watch out for...: Albany, last years bid from the AE, looking for revenge.
ACC - My Pick: North Carolina (10-5), the most talented team in the conference who will look to heat up at the right time, during March.
But watch out for...: Maryland (9-6), who have won 6 straight and are looking like a top 5 seed team. Also, don't sleep on Virginia (11-4) who have the best record in the ACC, and athletic Virginia Tech (10-5) who can create match-up problems, and would love to face UNC, who they beat twice during the season, in the finals. I could also see a semi-desperate Georgia Tech (7-8) making a run.
Atlantic Sun - My pick: Belmont (14-4) has the tournament experience and I think they'll show up again this year.
But watch out for...: East Tennessee State (16-2) finished in 1st place and could very well show up in an evenly matched barn-burner finals against Belmont.
Atlantic Ten - My pick: UMASS (12-3) will need to win the conference tourney to get a bid in the Big Dance.
But watch out for...: Xavier (12-3) is probably the favorite in the A-10, and they're riding an 8 game win streak (assuming a win over LaSalle) heading in. They would probably get an at-large bid anyway, so they might not feel the same desperation as UMASS. George Washington (10-5) is another team that appears to be out of its cold streak. (they lost 4 straight in the middle of the A-10 slate).
Big East - My pick: Georgetown (12-3) is still one of the hottest teams in the nation and will look to make a statement in the Big East tourney.
But watch out for...: Marquette (9-6) has lost 4 of 5, but they could get hot at any moment and make a run. If they do it here, look for them to do it on the NCAA Tourney main stage later this month. Pittsburgh (12-3) is an excellent team who will be looking to prove themselves worthy of a 2 seed, while Louisville (11-4) has played very well in the Big East this year, and that probably won't change.

These teams have failed to meet my expectations throughout this year. I have made a list of bust-teams, with their (pre-season ranks) in parenthesees.
Kansas (1) - Still a top 10 team but not dominant like I thought they'd be.
LSU (8) - At 2-3 in the SEC, the Tigers have already lost more conference games than all of last year.
Boston College (11) - Well, they're not busts in the ACC just yet, but it might get ugly fast. With the loss of Sean Williams mid-season, the team thats lost to the likes of Duquesne and Vermont only loses the best shot-blocker in the nation and a much-needed presence down low. Now their depth is depleted. Barring heroic efforts from Dudley, Marshall, and Rice every night, Boston College could fall to the lowly level of teams like Wake Forest.
Syracuse (13) - In a mediocre Big East, the Orange have done little to stand-out from the crowd.
UCONN (17) - They're just not ready. They rose early in the season, and steadily got ranked lower and lower through their first Big East games. They need a leader. I don't think Adrien can adjust so easily from filler player to superstud, either.
Creighton (20) - Well, they're one of the better teams in the MVC but a rank this high goes to a team who dominates their mid-major conference.
Michigan (29) - Senior leadership bring them to upper-class NIT mediocrity once again.
San Diego State (30) - This team is just too talented to be lost in the middle of the MWC.
Hofstra (37) - Everyone was excited about their backcourt, and putting them in their top 25's as a clearly-deserving and determined team. They were mediocre in non-conference play, and though they are excelling in conference play, they're still in 2nd place.
Charlotte (46) - I thought this team would be able to hang with everyone, but they have trouble hanging with anyone
Penn State (51) - One of the worst in the Big 10

December 16 Field

Seed - Team
Analysis
1- North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Florida, UCLA
Consistently great teams here. They've all got at least one legitimate force in the paint to compliment their outside players, even if they go cold. I figure these guys will have the best overall records.
2 - Kansas, Ohio St, Duke, Arizona
If I was filling out my own bracket, the 2 seeds would be the best. Kansas has shown that they won't be consistent with their mass amounts of talent, but they'll be consistent enough to rake in a dominant record in the Big 12. Ohio St could very well be a one seed, I just figured that their young players might struggle with consistency, since they depend so much on the 3-ball. Zona is, as Dickie Vitale puts it, a scoring machine, and they could find themselves in the Final 4 as well.
3 - Wisconsin, Texas A&M, LSU, Georgetown
Strong frontcourts here. I'm still thinking G'Town will piece together a really good season after a few early losses. Wisconsin may be better than I give them credit for, but I think they'll drop a few surprising games in Big 10 play.
4 - Nevada, Wichita St, Alabama, Memphis
Wichita St should land somewhere between 4-6 seed, depending on how well they hold up against the Salukis and MO St. Bears of the world. Nevada and Alabama are my two strongest picks here, Memphis is a wild card. They could jump up to a 3 or fall down to 8-9.

UCONN has quietly gotten off to a top 10 start, despite playing a weak slate of games. Syracuse could drop to 6, 7, 8...but I think they'll show up in Big East play.
